Dear Archer,
I would like to make you aware of the fact that the county is co-registering a L1 coaching course this summer. The county committee has agreed to provide substantial support for the provision of the course within the county. We are looking for volunteers to participate in the L1 course. You may not be aware of the reasons why you should volunteer for the course so I will outline them for you:
1. Archery GB is moving to a situation where only suitably qualified and accredited L1 coaches (or higher) will be permitted to teach archery to beginners. Think of what this means to you and your club! Beginners are the lifeline of all clubs and without them your club will either struggle to exist or be obliged to amalgamate with other clubs.
2. Similarly, it is likely that only accredited & centrally licenced coaches will be allowed to coach juniors. The revised coach licencing could affect club activities being covered by GNAS insurance
3. Within a few months, Archery GB will drastically reduce the number of people accredited to teach L1 coaches. Fewer tutors means fewer L1 coaches and ultimately fewer beginners joining your club. We have an opportunity to register a course before the switch over this autumn. This will help us to secure the future of archery within Cambridgeshire while the new coaching structures are being introduced.
The move to a standardised coaching structure offers benefits in the medium term, but the transition period will be difficult if all clubs don’t have licenced coaches. I strongly encourage you to join the L1 course now and urge all clubs to promote this course to their members NOW.
The exact dates and extent of the county support are predicated on the interest from within the county. There will be a minimum of 6 places available to Cambs archers, with priority given to members of clubs where no properly accredited coaches are available i.e approx. 75% of all current Cambridgeshire clubs. If you want to join the course, or know if your club has an accredited coach, then contact me.
