Peter Achieves Archery National Title and Record
On the weekend of July 4th and 5th, 5 junior members of Parkfield Archers took part in the Junior FITA Star and Metric Tournament and the Junior National Outdoor Championships held at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall, Shropshire.
Saturday was the FITA Star and Metric rounds, taking 9 gruelling hours of competition, with every type of weather condition from hot and sunny to wind and rain thrown at the competitors to test their skills. At the end of the day it saw Peter Fletcher achieve a new National Record for the Longbow at 90m with a score of 44 and 1st place in the Gents FITA Longbow. Also attaining placings from the club were Sally Watson, 2nd in the Metric 3 Longbow with a score of 472 and Harry Silvester, 3rd in the Metric 4 Recurve with a score of 1178. The two other archers from the club competed in the Metric 2 Recurve and saw Andrew Charter in his first Junior National Championships score a PB of 1006 and Michael Fletcher also a PB with 528.
On Sunday it was the Junior National Outdoor Championships rounds. The weather remained variable and again saw another long day of 7 hours competition. Peter continued where he left off the previous day with 1st place, but this time it also gave him the title of “National Champion” in the York Longbow with a score of 171. The remaining 4 members of the club also had good days with Sally Watson again taking 2nd place in the Bristol 3 Longbow, Harry Silvester just missing out on a medal with 4th place in the Bristol 4 Recurve, scoring 1102 and Andrew Charter and Michael Fletcher in the Bristol 2 scoring 976 and 604 respectively, which was another PB for Michael.
