Shooting for Cambridgeshire

During the outdoor season a county team competes in several events. This page lists those events and summarises selection procedures. The CAA Team Managers  are Dave Slack ( Seniors) and Angela Watson (Juniors).

Team Events    For the coming season these are :

Inter county match with Essex. The team can be up to 18, with a mix of senior and junior archers, shooting recurve compound or longbow. Expected to be on 10th  or 17th  May in 2009.

Inter county match with Bedfordshire.  Similar teams to the Essex match. It will be held in conjunction with the CAA Outdoor Championships on the 14th June 2009

East Anglian  Championships   Consideration is being given to switching to a new format as a stand alone event. Date and venue to be decided.  The team is a mixed team of  6 archers, the composition of which is decided by the organiser.

SCAS Junior Team Championships   This shoot is held in late August , normally in Essex. Teams consist of up to 4 archers in each discipline.

SCAS Senior Team Championships This event is held at Andover in mid September. Separate teams are entered for both recurve and compound shooters.

Selection for the county teams

For the initial selection of the team for the match with Essex, a selection shoot will be held .  This is provisionally set for Saturday 18th April 2009. The rounds to be shot in 2009 will be St George, Albion and appropriate junior rounds.

An entry form for the selection shoot will be made available as soon as venue and date are confirmed. A small entry fee will be charged  to cover the cost of running the shoot. Archers entering this shoot will be expected to take part in the Essex match if selected.

Selection of teams  for the Bedfordshire match and the SCAS team events will be made by the team managers, using data on archers’ current performance.  This will be through score submission to the CAA Records officer and the Team Managers.

In the past the EAC teams  have  been selected from the best scores shot on the day.
It is not known if this arrangement will apply in 2009.

Coaching for juniors .  To try to increase the pool of junior competitors, two training events for juniors will be held before the selection shoot. They will provide coaching and  competition practice for any prospective junior team members.

The selection process used for our teams did not work very well during the 2009 season. To improve our chances of fielding strong teams for our matches in 2010 it is intended to prepare core squads of archers, junior and senior, during the forthcoming winter. At the CAA Committee Meeting on 2 September selection of the squads to train during the winter 2009/10 season was discussed and the following agreed.  The Team Managers' will develop their ideas on selection, but as a first step on getting information on archers current performance at the end of the 2009 outdoor season raw score data from the End of Season Shoot will be considered.

It is stressed that this will not affect the basis on which the End of Season shoot results will be decided - they will continue to be decided on a handicap basis.
